The storage of leftover alcohol purchased from a retail establishment for university-sponsored and approved events is not permitted. Once an event concludes, any unused alcohol must either be returned to the retailer, if allowed, or disposed of. Limited exceptions exist in campus locations that frequently host events and have control protocols in place to ensure secure storage. Effective June 1, 2026, those locations are:
- The William and Ida Friday Center,
- Kenan Center and Bell Hall (Kenan-Flagler),
- Morehead Planetarium,
- FedEx Global Education Center,
- North Carolina Botanical Garden, and
- Memorial Hall.
